Platonic Friends Pt 1: Unequally Yoked

I asked my bestie, Kevin Spann, to join me in this conversation to debunk the myth that men and women can’t be friends. Although we come from two different worlds; I’m a Christian he’s not; I’m a woman he’s a man; I’m cautious he’s spontaneous, the basis of our friendship is love and respect. We’re sharing our journey and how we were able to make 12+ years of friendship work.

This was great. I love that you shared a pic of you in the bonnet. You’re always so put together so it’s nice to see that you’re regular folk too. Lol. I believe that men and women can be friends. In the past I tried it multiple times but was not successful bc the guy always had a hidden agenda. I remember a time when I was almost successful but I had a boyfriend at the time and I allowed his insecurities to get in the way of the friendship. Smh. But I use it as a learning experience. So now I have a male friend that if given the chance I think he would like the opportunity for more but we spoke about why that can’t happen and I think he gets it and is more interested in maintaining the friendship above all else. Overall, communication is key to any successful relationship.

I really enjoyed this conversation! It was interesting, funny and real all at the same time lol. I do agree with you guys, a man and woman CAN have a platonic friendship. Like you guys said even when there is a physical attraction, if there’s no hidden agenda than the friendship can continue as just that. A friendship!
